Lily Beach News

The house reef of Lily Beach is the richer for two new attractions!

Due its location close to a channel the house reef of Lily Beach has always been not only a beautiful addition but an attractive and diverse alternative to the boat dives. It now offers even more change and possibilities to almost limitless snorkeling and diving fun with its two new entry and exit points. Even with a little bit stronger current you simply drift along and enjoy the beauty of the underwater world of the Maldives without wondering if you could miss the last exit.

Big schools of jack fish, humpback snappers, banner fish, oriental sweet lips but also countless numbers of moray eels, lobsters and scorpion fish let every diver's heart beat faster and due the vicinity to the channel encounters with white tip reef sharks, eagle rays and even manta mobulas are quite possible.

Particularly at night the at the south side rather steeply dropping reef impresses also experienced divers with smaller and bigger overhangs and one can find beside the almost guaranteed sting rays a new surprise in the smallest overhang.

The conditions in the lagoon and at the house reef are literally ideal for dive beginners. Directly in front of the dive centre or if it is too wavy there on the other side of the island at the water sport centre the lagoon provides calm, clear and warm water to a maximum dept of 2 metres in which the first steps into the unknown underwater world are pure fun. And after a few fin kicks it becomes perfectly clear why the Maldives are considered to be among the best dive destinations of the world: countless colourful fish and corals and with a bit of luck a turtle or a small reef shark wet the appetite for much more.

Dear Friends of Lily Beach

The newly opened and redesigned Lily Beach Resort has not only won former guests of the "old" Lily Beach as repeat guests and friends but also convinced first time visitors thoroughly with the "new" concept and in particular with the "Platinum all inclusive" program. They will definitely come back and recommend the island to their friends.
Diving in the South Ari Atoll too lived more than up to its reputation being among the best in the Maldives
Although the manta rays arrived late, not before September, they stayed on our side of the atoll until the beginning of December.
Countless times we could snorkel and dive with at least 20 mantas at Huravali Faru and Madi Faru. At least four times we saw whale sharks joining the mantas for the big feast on the surface. And always unforgettable will be that week in October when we saw between one to three whale sharks either at "Vilamendhoo Thila" or in the Ranveli channel practically in our back yard every day in the morning and afternoon

But also our frequent day trips to the southern outside reefs have been often successful and we could either snorkel or dive with whale sharks. And even if we did not see any, our guests have been impressed by the dive sites and various encounters with white tip reef sharks, eagle and sting rays and dolphins at the boat.
With our comfortable diving boats with sun deck and toilet we visited again and again the Dangethi channel where in particular the world famous dive sites "Five Rocks", "Broken Rock" and "Kudarah Thila" inspired our divers with their display of colors and the variety and numbers of corals and fish. But also the smaller much lesser known reefs close to Lily Beach as "Endiri Thila" or "Kuda Mafushivaru Giri" are meanwhile among the favorites of our repeat guests.

And not only already certified divers but also dive beginners have found their little paradise in Lily Beach. The lagoon directly in front of the dive centre with its shallow sandy bottom and colorful fish is ideal for training. Small groups and the patience of the dive instructor guarantee a stress free introduction to the wonderful underwater world and with a few kicks of your fins you are at the house reef where you can experience the fascination of recreational diving first hand.
In October many teenager and children found out that learning to dive is kid's play and fun even during school holidays. And for the very small ones still too young to participate in a dive course the "bubblemaker" program was a great way to have fun and breathe underwater.

We are looking forward to welcome the first repeat guests of the "new" Lily Beach already between Christmas and New Year and we wish all the friends of Lily Beach a Merry Christmas and all the best for the year 2010. May all your wishes come true and we may see us again in Lily Beach.

Yours truly Ocean-Pro Team Lily Beach: Juergen, Chris, Tomoko, Katja, Guillaume und Atheef.

The Bubblemaker program in Lily Beach Resort & Spa at Huvahendhoo offered by Ocean-Pro

Learning to dive is generally not difficult at all but as easy as child's play. Even children from the age of 10 could already enroll in a PADI dive course ending with an internationally recognized certificate.

The little brother or sister is not left alone and outside but could also experience the fascination of diving and breathing independently underwater. The bubblemaker program offered by the Ocean Pro dive team is a fun opportunity and a playful approach for younger children (age 8 to 9) to try scuba in water shallower than 2 meters.

Only steps away from the dive centre the lagoon of Lily Beach is perfectly protected by a small wall and offers warm, calm and clear water. The sandy bottom is soft and batches of small corals grow in some areas surrounded by colourful and curious reef fish. The children will be provided with small tanks, children sized vests and even wet suits to keep them warm. After a short explanation they enter the water where they experience the weightlessness of inner space by summer salting, swimming backwards and upside down. Little games with spoon and eggs or plastic toys keep them busy and occupied and with a short visit to the colourful corals and fish times simply fly.

Afterwards they receive a special wall certificate to take home as a memory to their first visit into Neptun's world where the hopefully return as a diver in the future.
